Fast Food…Oh Boy

Fast food was a regular habit for me.  My schedule was so crazy, I just couldn’t avoid it, so I thought!  The thing that has weighed heavy on my mind for the last week or so is the fact that when I go to a fast food restaurant, I place my health in the hands of a stranger.  We don’t know what they put in the food.  Don’t get me wrong, I am not against restaurants at all, but I am now against eating out as my main source of meals.  It is  my responsibility to take care of my body, not someone else.  In December, I came across an article on the Internet and it shook me to the core.  It was an article about the 20 worst foods in America.  Reading this really helped me to realize how much power I was giving away to others as it pertains to my eating.  Here is the article:   http://health.yahoo.net/experts/eatthis/worst-foods-america-2010    (If this link doesn’t work, there is another link to the right in the blogroll.)

When I looked at this article, it really made me think about the food that I have been eating.  This food has contributed to my obesity.  It is not the fault of the food because it is definitely my choice to eat it.  It was my choice to allow the fast food and restaurant industry to be my main source of nourishment.  They cook things that people like the taste of.  Unfortunately those foods are loaded with fat, salt, sugar, cholesterol and numerous chemicals.  All of this stuff goes into our body, and if unchecked, it can lead to some serious health issues. Our bodies don’t know what to do with that stuff, so it deposits all of these bad chemicals and stuff in our fat tissues as far away from vital organs as possible in order to protect us, but it can only do that for so long though.

The best choice is to cook at home.  If you want to go out, a lot of these food places will have some healthy choices, but that is not usually what we want when we are addicted to sugar, salt and all of that other stuff.  It is our responsibility to try our best to do right by our bodies, so it is up to us to pick healthier foods, or simply ask the cook or chef to prepare the food in a way that is healthier.   There is nothing wrong with asking for that.  If they won’t do it, go to a restaurant that will.

One of my goals is to get past all of that bad food stuff, and I can honestly say that I am doing really well in that area right now.  I am more focused than I have been in a long time.  I have chosen not to eat out for a while because I want to give my body a little rest, and right now, I don’t miss it.
