Holiday season is a great opportunity to spend time with friends and family, but there is one really bad thing about it. FOOD!!! The most unhealthy recipes come out from Thanksgiving through New Years. Why is that??? That is one of those questions that make you go Hmmmm. Well, of course I fell into the holiday trap, and I ate a lot of things that I should not have. I have decided not to be too hard on myself, but I have veered off of the path. I have to do what my good friend Nancy says. I have to get back up on the horse because he has thrown me off.
Holiday time is a huge temptation for me, but I am going to work on overcoming that throughout the year so that when holiday time comes up again next year, I will be better prepared to eat healthier, or to at least make healthier food choices. I have the healthy food that I need in the refrigerator to help me get back on the horse, I just need to prepare them and eat them. I removed all of the candy and sweets that belonged to me from the house. Now, I just need to implement my plan. This has been a little setback for me, but I am totally optimistic.
I am organizing and planning spiritual and physical goals and challenges for my journey to keep me focused on where I am going. For example, I want to go back to the Smoky Mountains this summer and climb Laurel Falls again. My first experience with Laurel Falls was a very spiritual one, so I want to go back, but I want to be more fit than the last time so it won’t be so difficult. I need these types of goals because it helps me stay focused, and I get a spiritual boost when I accomplish them.
I have a lot of work to do, but “I can do all things through God who strengthens me.”

Hi Rachel! I’m happy to know that you are getting back upon that horse. I also binged during the holidays. I don’t know what it is about holidays that make us do that. I’ve talked to people that don’t even have weight problems and they tell me they always gain weight during the holidays. One sister told me she gained 5 lbs and the holidays are not over yet. Anyhow, I’m determined to reach my goal this year. I will make healthier choices in the food that I eat. Monday will be a brand new start for me. Somehow, I always like to start over on Mondays (smile). Have a great week of getting back upon the horse and accomplishing your goals.
I think that most people over eat over the Holidays..including myself. I used to do it different when I started some dieting. I would stop eating unhealthy at the begining of November and when the special days came I would do a little bad but quickly get back on eating healthy. This year…for many reasons…I just “pigged out” during the Holidays even though I have been eating bad for about a year and a half. I did the worst of course during December even eating while I wasn’t hungry…stress and many other things? you bet! I have set my mind (once more….) that this week will be the last to eat unhealthy since we also celebrate the Three King’s Day. We did have our little feast in the classroom today and tomorrow is Pancake Day plus whatever leftovers from today’s get together lol My plan is to assign that activity to the healthy assistant’s who always pass on the offer of yummy hotcakes or are able to do just 1, maybe two. The rest..I have to yet figure it out…Keep it up!
Look on the bright side…no major holidays until Easter….avoid the chocolate at Valentine’s Day…and you will be just fine…and if you do need chocolate on Valentine’s day….have chocolate dipped strawberries…at least you have some fruit with it….:)
Tim,
You are so funny. I like your suggestion though. Lucky for me, I am not a big chocolate eater.
Love Ya,
